Over the past few years you’ve seen the Tor Project’s name pop up in the news on more than one occasion. With a core mission of “advancing human rights and freedoms by developing free and open anonymity and privacy technologies,” it’s easy to understand why in this day and age.
One of those technologies is the Open Observatory of Network Interference, or OONI. With OONI, Internet users can check to see whether their online activities are being monitored, censored or otherwise interfered with. OONI can tell you if your ISP is throttling Netflix traffic or preventing you from accessing The Pirate Bay. It can also tell a user in China if the Great Firewall is getting in the way of loading a site.
